Vegan Design Details at The Rosedale Residence

Today, we’re sharing a little more love for one of our very favourite projects to date, #IHRosedaleResidence, in collaboration with Maillot Homes. Not only does this home reflect our client’s lifestyle and personal aesthetic in every way, but it is also 100% vegan! Let’s dive into some of the details that went into this cruelty-free home:

Wallcoverings.

While the construction portion of the home was vegan simply by the nature of the building materials used, we had to approach the finishes and furnishings with more caution to ensure no animal by-products were used in any way. This included all wallcoverings and adhesives used for installation.

Textiles.

One of the biggest challenges we faced was sourcing textile pieces such as rugs and fabrics that looked and felt luxurious without the use of wool or silk. This was elevated by our personal (and very strong) aversion to low quality “silk alternatives” such as viscose or tensile. (#IYKYK) We knew a high quality custom home like this one deserved hardworking furnishings that would hold up over time.

Upholstery.

All of the upholstery in the home was custom made by our friends at Red Eight Workshop. This allowed us to ensure the upholstery foam used was also 100% vegan and of the highest quality!

Bedding.

Another element that we had to pay close attention to was bedding, including textiles, inserts, and mattresses, to ensure nothing contained down feathers. With a bit of help from our expert seamstress, we were able to source the most realistic down alternative pillow inserts that are so convincing, they even fooled our senior design staff!

The final result is a home filled with truly luxurious interiors that is 100% cruelty free. We loved the challenge of bringing this vision to life for our client and we are incredibly grateful to have had this learning opportunity which we have been able to reference on new projects we’ve tackled since.
